Over eight whole months before Denis Vilenneive's Dune: Part Three is due to hit the big screen, tickets to the film's first day in IMAX cinemas have already sold out, and scaplers are taking full advantage of the demand.
On April 6, the official Dune Twitter page spontaneously announced that tickets for 70mm IMAX screenings were going on sale that evening. Tickets were ready to purchase for the movie's opening weekend at 18 cinemas across the US, the UK, and Canada. However, with so many Dune fans wanting to be amongst the first to see the new sci-fi epic on the biggest screen possible, tickets sold out within minutes.

But some of those who were able to get their hands on pre-sale tickets are turning a hefty profit, reselling tickets on websites such as eBay for up to $1000. But some fans are willing to pay the price, as one seller managed to shift a single ticket for a Dune 3 screening at Cinemark Dallas for $999.99.
However, fans are not happy with the whole experience, not just because of resellers, but also because of how Dune and IMAX handled pre-sales. "That was a dreadful experience trying to buy tickets. Really hoping I can get some once more dates are released," said one Twitter user, and another said, "You gotta set up an anti-bot system cause that sucked."
Those who didn't manage to get their hands on tickets this time around will have another shot, though. Due to the sheer demand, it seems like IMAX is planning to add more dates and times, urging fans to join the waitlist and sign up for email notifications to ensure they hear about future presales.
The reason for the overwhelming demand is no doubt because the movie was shot for IMAX, with Villeneuve stating that the threequel is meant to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Based on Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah, Dune: Part 3 catches up with Emperor Paul Atreides 12 years after Dune: Part Two, as he faces the many enemies he made during the war.
Dune: Part Three has wrapped filming and will release in cinemas on December 18, 2026. For more, check out our upcoming movies list to make sure you're up to date with all major releases.
