Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has sent a message to supporters following the conclusion of his 2021/22 campaign.
The defender joined up with the Netherlands squad following last Saturday's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. He played the full 90 minutes of their 4-1 Nations League win over Belgium on Friday night.
Despite their upcoming fixtures against Wales and Poland, the 30-year-old will now have time off before attention turns to the new season. He's shared a reflective message on social media, referencing the long period he spent on the sidelines with a knee injury.

He wrote in a tweet: "My season is done. A season that had tough moments, but most of all full of happy moments. Happy that I was able to contribute again, after being out for such a long time.
"I’m blessed and privileged and I really don’t take any of that for granted!"
The centre back signed a new contract with the club in August last year and his comeback campaign saw him make over 50 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, totalling over 4,600 minutes of action.
Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal told Dutch outlet Gelderlander earlier this week: "I would also like to give Van Dijk time off. He has had a very serious injury, I believe he has played the most games of any player in the Premier League.
"If you know Virgil, he wants to play everything. But we also have to listen to the doctors. And sometimes it is not wise to play.”
