After 5.5 Years at Wipro, Marketing Professional Shares Emotional Layoff Story

That is why losing a job can feel deeply personal, even when employers insist it has nothing to do with performance.

Delhi-based marketing professional Anukriti Vidyarthi recently opened up about this difficult experience in an emotional Instagram video after revealing that she had been laid off from Wipro, where she had worked for nearly five and a half years.

Rather than expressing anger or assigning blame, Anukriti spoke honestly about the emotional impact of an unexpected career setback. Her calm and candid reflections struck a chord with thousands of professionals who have faced similar situations.

A Meeting That Changed Everything

According to Anukriti, she was working as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator with Wipro AI Solutions. On June 29, she joined what she believed would be a routine meeting with her manager and a representative from the HR team.

Instead, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

She was informed that her position had become redundant and that her employment with the company was coming to an end.

"I had a call with the HR and the manager and they told me that my role is redundant and I have been asked to leave the company where I was employed for five-and-a-half years," she shared in the video.

The sudden announcement marked the end of a journey she never expected would conclude so abruptly.

When a Workplace Becomes Part of Your Life

For employees who spend years with a single organisation, work often becomes deeply intertwined with everyday life.

The office becomes a place where friendships are formed, birthdays are celebrated, deadlines are navigated together, and monthly salary credits become a reassuring constant. Few imagine that years of familiarity can end with a single meeting.

Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Anukriti admitted, "I never thought I'll be here at this stage... But I am."

Her words captured the disbelief many professionals experience when faced with an unforeseen layoff.

Looking for Meaning in an Unexpected Setback

One moment from the video particularly resonated with viewers.

Instead of dwelling on the question of "Why me?", Anukriti tried to find perspective in the experience.

"Maybe it's a sign from the Gods because I don't think I would have ever quit this job on my own," she said.

Her outlook reflected a willingness to accept uncertainty while acknowledging that some life changes arrive without warning.

The Financial Reality of Losing a Job

While maintaining a positive outlook, Anukriti did not hide her concerns about the practical challenges ahead.

She openly spoke about losing the security of a steady monthly income—a reality that extends beyond missing a paycheck.

A regular salary supports rent, EMIs, household expenses, savings, and countless everyday financial commitments. When that stability disappears overnight, the emotional impact is often accompanied by significant financial uncertainty.

For many professionals, adapting to this sudden change can be one of the most difficult aspects of a layoff.

Social Media Responds With Empathy and Encouragement

Anukriti's video quickly gained attention online, with thousands of viewers offering words of encouragement and sharing their own experiences.

Many comments reflected solidarity rather than sympathy.

One user wrote, "You'll be fine, trust me."

Another added, "All the best. The sun will rise again."

Several professionals revealed that they had recently experienced layoffs themselves, highlighting how widespread workforce reductions have become across industries.

"I got laid off on June 26. Same feeling... Worst feeling," one commenter shared.

Others encouraged Anukriti to take some time before rushing into another role.

"It's the new normal. Go on a vacation for a few days. You'll feel refreshed and then decide what you want to do next," another user suggested.

Some even viewed the setback as an opportunity to explore freelancing, consulting, or entrepreneurship instead of immediately returning to a corporate job.

Growing Concerns About Job Security

Among the many responses, one comment reflected a concern shared by professionals across the corporate sector.

"I saw your LinkedIn. Do Wipro too lay off their employees? Don't you think it's morally unethical? God knows when such job-related insecurities will end in the corporate sector."

The remark echoed broader anxieties surrounding corporate restructuring and the increasing unpredictability of long-term employment.

Over the past few years, layoffs and role redundancies have become an uncomfortable reality across multiple industries. Even employees with years of service are finding themselves affected by organisational changes that often arrive with little warning.

A Story That Many Professionals Understand

For Anukriti, the future remains uncertain.

Like countless professionals navigating similar circumstances, she is likely updating her résumé, reconnecting with her professional network, and preparing for the next chapter of her career.

Yet, by choosing to speak openly about her layoff instead of quietly moving on, she started an important conversation about a reality many employees experience but rarely discuss publicly.

Her story serves as a reminder that behind every layoff announcement is a person adjusting to an unexpected change. And sometimes, hearing someone else's story can make the uncertainty feel a little less isolating for everyone going through the same experience.
