Africa Oye is celebrating its 30th anniversary by allowing designers a chance to create new and official merchandise for the festival.
The popular Liverpool festival takes place at Sefton Park on June 18 and 19, 2022. The festival organisers are looking for designers, artists and illustrators’ ideas for their 30th anniversary poster and limited-edition t-shirts.
Ally Goodman, the marketing manager at Africa Oye said: “Anyone who has been to the festival knows the vibe and the atmosphere of the Oye. We’re open to all and want to see designers have fun and embrace their own styles.

“We are looking for one colour design for a screen-printed t-shirt, which must include an official Africa Oye logo. For the poster, it must include the logo and fit within maximum A3 print space."
Winning designs will be printed and sold as official merchandise at Seton Park. For the 25th anniversary in 2017, festival organisers have previously allowed designers the chance to submit their design ideas for merchandise. The winner was local designer, Zoe Harrison.
Ally said: “[Zoe] really captured the ‘feel’ of the festival in her designs. We would love to see a variety of styles from designers.” Announced in March, the lineup includes Oumou Sangare, Fue ODG, Eek-A-Mouse and many more.
Ally added: “Africa Oyé is a registered charity and all proceeds from merchandise sales go back into the charity, helping keep the festival free entry and open to all for years to come.” The winner will be picked via a panel made up of the Africa Oye Staff who will anonymously pick their top three designs with one overall winner being chosen based on those votes.
Aside from the festival, Africa Oye have joined forced with Liverpool Arab Arts Festival and the Philharmonic who are bringing Dur-Dur Band over from Somalia. They will be hosting a one-off performance in May. The deadline for the competition is Midnight on Sunday 1st May 2022.
