The Adelaide Crows plan to establish their new club headquarters at Thebarton Oval.
The club's chairman John Olsen has written to members saying negotiations were underway with the City of West Torrens and the SANFL, which currently leases the site in the western suburb of Torrensville.
Mr Olsen said the 9.1 hectare site would have two ovals, one the size of Adelaide Oval and the other similar to the MCG, as well as an indoor pitch nearly twice the size of the one at West Lakes.
Mr Olsen said the headquarters, which the club hopes to move into in 2025, would include facilities for the Crows AFLW players.
The club has its current offices and training ground at West Lakes.
In 2019, the club proposed moving to a new facility to replace the ageing Adelaide Aquatic Centre but pulled out as COVID-19 hit its finances.
Mr Olsen said he expected the project to cost at least $75 million and hoped to secure state government funding.
The club and the local council said the community would have access to green space at the site, except during training.
"All the fencing around Thebarton Oval will be done away with and it will be a magnificent precinct," City of West Torrens Mayor Michael Coxon said.
Mr Coxon said the council were "absolutely delighted" with the announcement.
"We're excited about the development, we're excited about the impact for our local community — both residents and business," he said.
Mr Coxon said he hoped an agreement would be signed by the end of the year.
Mr Olsen said the site was about 30 per cent bigger than the previous one considered at Brompton.
The Crows had lost out on a bid to redevelop the Brompton gasworks site, a decision under review by the current state government.
Despite the Crows' announcement, the state government will continue its review into the tender process.
"The government remains determined to achieve the best possible outcome for South Australians at the former Brompton gasworks site," a spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the state government welcomed the Crows' announcement "and wishes the club all the best as it works towards establishing its new base in the western suburbs".
Infrastructure Minister and West Torrens MP Tom Koutsantonis said the Crows were "very keen" to access the oval via South Road rather than the current entrance behind the oval, which would ease traffic congestion.
"I think the end outcome will be very, very good," he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
"I'm hoping it's going to be a world-class facility."
