India vs Afghanistan Playing 11: India may have started their three-match T20I series against Afghanistan with a convincing win, but the team is likely to assess a few areas before the second match. Shreyas Iyer’s Team India opened the series with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. Despite the comfortable win, the T20 World Cup champions could consider a few changes to their playing XI for the next game.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Could Return To Opening Slot
India could also consider bringing 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi back to the top of the order alongside Abhishek Sharma. Sooryavanshi was left out of the playing XI after smashing 81 runs in his previous T20I against Zimbabwe, with Sanju Samson returning to the side.
Samson’s Return Yet To Produce Big Impact
However, Samson could not make a significant contribution in the series opener, being dismissed for just 10 runs on Sunday. With the second T20I approaching, India could weigh their options at the top of the order and consider whether Sooryavanshi should return to the XI.
India could also be without their premier spinner Varun Chakravarthy for the remainder of the T20I series after he reportedly picked up a side strain during the opening match. Chakravarthy had only recently returned to the Indian squad after spending nearly two months on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury sustained during the T20I series against England in July.
