Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of ‘war crimes’ after seven killed in missile strikes

  • Pakistan launched mortar and missile strikes on northeastern Afghanistan on Monday, reportedly hitting a university and civilian homes in Kunar Province, killing seven people and wounding at least 85.
  • Afghan officials condemned the attacks as a "war crime", stating that students and professors were among the injured at Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani University, which sustained extensive damage.
  • Pakistan vehemently denied targeting the university, calling Afghan claims "frivolous and fake" and asserting its strikes are "precise and intelligence based".
  • The incident marks the first major outbreak of violence since Chinese-mediated peace talks earlier this month, reigniting a border conflict that has claimed hundreds of lives.
  • Pakistan maintains Afghanistan harbours Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants responsible for attacks on its soil, an accusation consistently refuted by Kabul.
