AFC West spends Raiders bye week stinking it up

This week the Raiders had their break for the season. The hope is that the rest of the division doesn’t gain on them while they have the week off. In that regard, it was a pretty good week.

The big game was the Chiefs who finished out the day by losing to the Packers 27-19. That’s right, the defending World Champs didn’t crack 20 points. And has them losing for the third time in their past five games. They didn’t hit 20 points in any of those three losses.

Yeah, there was some controversy at the end with an obvious pass interference that was not called that would have given the Chiefs a first down. But there was also a bogus late hit penalty earlier in that drive which benefited the Chiefs. Not saying two wrongs make a right, but I am saying it’s not like the Chiefs were just victims of bad officiating. And they put themselves in the position where they needed that PI late to have a shot in this game.

The Broncos and Chargers played Sunday morning in Houston and New England respectively. The Broncos would lose 22-17 to the Texans while the Chargers would win, but by a score of 6-0.

Yes, a win is a win, but they just squeaked by a 2-win Patriots team and couldn’t score a touchdown. It’s the fewest points the Patriots have given up all season. even the Giants and Jets managed ten points against the Patriots.

It’s really no wonder they are tied with the Raiders at 5-7 on the season.

As for the Broncos, they had won five straight games coming in after starting the season 1-5. They were don 13-0 early in this game and 22-10 in the fourth quarter. The Broncos made it interesting late, pulling ot within 22-17 and then driving to goal-to-go in the final seconds, but on third and goal, Russell Wilson was intercepted in the end zone.

The Broncos now sit at 6-6, making the 8-4 Chiefs the only winning team in the AFC West.

Here’s the division standings:

1. Chiefs 8-4 (3-1)
2. Broncos 6-6 (1-2)
3. Chargers 5-7 (1-1)
4. Raiders 5-7 (1-2)
