AFC executive believes Giants are a ‘true contender’

After their unexpected success in the 2023 season, the New York Giants are headed in the right direction under the new regime led by general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

While some think it was a fluke, one AFC executive believes in what the Giants are building:

Headed into the offseason, the Giants had a goal to improve the weapons around Daniel Jones. While they didn’t add a No. 1 receiver, they did land one of the NFL’s best tight ends, Darren Waller. Along with Parris Campbell (free agency) and Jalin Hyatt (NFL draft), the Waller acquisition adds a ton of speed to the Giants offense.

On defense, Big Blue has the potential to take big steps forward. The defensive line should be healthier in 2023 and the additions of linebacker Bobby Okereke and cornerback Deonte Banks certainly improve that side of the ball.

Obviously, a lot will ride on Saquon Barkley in 2023 being a focal point of the Giants offense. With the weapons added and the addition of John Michael Schmitz, Barkley should be even better than he was in 2022.

Maybe most importantly, the executive clearly holds Daniel Jones in high regard and hopefully with some continuity, he can continue to improve for Big Blue.

Despite drawing a challenging front end of the schedule on Thursday’s schedule release, Big Blue is trending in the right direction.
