AFC East Week 4 recap and standings: Dolphins drop to second place

The NFL is fully back in swing, as all 32 teams were in action for a Week 4 slate that included a mix of entertaining duels and some absolute blowouts.

After four weeks, the AFC East has two teams tied at the top, as the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills are both 3-1.

An offer for Dolphins fans

Those two squared off on Sunday, as Sean McDermott’s team won handily, 48-20. Coming off of a 50-point win over the Denver Broncos the week before, the Dolphins looked incapable of defending the duo of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. Offensively, they couldn’t keep pressure off of the quarterback long enough for him to make effective reads and throws, ultimately costing the team their first loss of the season.

There’s also a tie at the bottom of the division with the New England Patriots and New York Jets at 1-3.

Bill Belichick’s team suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, 38-3. That’s the worst loss since Belichick took over the Patriots back in 2000. Mac Jones was inactive to the point that he was benched for backup Bailey Zappe. If things keep going the way they’re headed, this could be the end for one of the best coaches in league history.

The Jets played on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that everyone thought was going to be a blowout. Instead, the Jets hung around, losing just 23-20, thanks to two interceptions by Patrick Mahomes and some solid play from Zach Wilson. The quarterback position will continue to be the question for Robert Saleh and company, but this game might’ve bought Wilson more time.

Week 5 AFC East matchups:

  • Buffalo Bills (3-1) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Miami Dolphins (3-1) vs. New York Giants (1-2*)
  • New England Patriots (1-3) vs. New Orleans Saints (2-2)
  • New York Jets (1-3) vs. Denver Broncos (1-3)
