Leeds United's fixture against Liverpool which had to be postponed in December has been rearranged for Wednesday, February 23, kicking off at 19.45.
The game was set to take place on Boxing Day but Leeds had to request a postponement under Covid rules after an outbreak amongst the players and staff forced the club to close Thorp Arch under guidance from Public Health England.
For Leeds, the game now slots into a tough run of fixtures. The Whites face Manchester United at Elland Road on February 20 before travelling to Anfield in midweek. They then host Tottenham Hotspur the weekend after.
Meanwhile Liverpool have their Carabao Cup final against Chelsea just four days after the match at Elland Road, as well as having to face both Inter Milan in the Champions League and Norwich City in the Premier League the week before.
Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media since the news of the fixture rearrangement broke. Some are very confident that their team will pick up an easy win after they beat Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road earlier this season, whilst others are concerned about the fixture coming before their cup final.
Here is a selection of tweets:
@Richard29990621: "7 games, across 4 competitions, in a 3 week period starting from Sunday. We are into the business end of fighting on 4 fronts now lads."
@JordanDelurey: "4 days before a cup final very fair."
@opinionatedmute: "The Leeds games either side of it are Man Utd and Spurs both at home. From the league perspective, there's probably not a better time to play them!"
@semvak_bau: "Advantage chelski."
@badopinionsguy_: "I don’t think it’s a massive inconvenience really. Should be able to breeze through Norwich and Leeds at home before the final."
@_FortuneOnyema: "Just before Carabao cup final???? These people just want to kill us."
@Timkennel_: "3 Points secured! Certainty."
The match will not be broadcast on television, despite the original fixture being selected as part of the Boxing Day fixtures.
