Adults diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who need to begin treatment now have another daily pill to discuss with their cancer doctors. On Oct. 2, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Eli Lilly's Jaypirca (pirtobrutinib) for adults with previously untreated CLL or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) who have no known 17p deletion.
Until now, the drug was cleared only for patients whose cancer had returned or stopped responding to other medicines, the setting MedicalDaily covered when it compared Jaypirca with Brukinsa. The new approval moves it to the start of care, where choices can shape a patient's options for years.
