“No I don’t think people would get confused. I think they’ll be fine," the actor said.
“I think you’ll find come the next election the British public are a lot smarter than you think."
When asked if he believed there should be a general election and when, Dunbar said ‘as soon as possible’.
“I think there’s a paucity of leadership in the country at the moment, I think they’re a shoddy bunch of people and we should get rid of them," he said.
When speaking about his Line of Duty character of Ted Hastings using social media to speak on politics previously, Adrian shared: “I mean satire, where would we be without it?
“We don't have it anymore. It would be nice if Spitting Image was back, that would be a good idea wouldn't it.”
Appearing on the show to promote his new role as Ridley in the ITV drama, Dunbar also fielded questions about if and when there would be a new series of Line of Duty.
“We don’t really know, it’s entirely down to Jed so we’re keeping our fingers crossed within the next few weeks or a couple of months we might hear something,” he added.
“The story can continue, put it that way. In terms of the story finishing I think it was a really interesting ending in so far as that’s probably what reality is like.
“It’s usually somebody along the line that decides to discard a piece of information, not make the call, not pass the piece of information on.
“So in that respect I think it was very realistic the ending, but it didn’t satisfy very sensational need in the public I think.”
