Adrian Bevington breaks silence on Rangers CEO link as he confirms 'initial contact'

Former English FA managing director Adrian Bevington has broken his silence on links to the Rangers CEO job as he admitted making contact with the club.

The experienced operator has revealed he made initial contact with the club but there has been no dialogue over the vacant Ibrox post.

Bevington previously discussed the position on Go Radio last week but did not go so far as to put his name forward for the role.

However, speaking to the Daily Record, Bevington has now confirmed he would discuss the role with Ibrox chiefs.

It comes after St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie reportedly pulled out of the running to replace James Bisgrove.

“They are a huge club - a football institution - with a global fan base so of course I would always be happy to have a conversation if they wanted to have a conversation with me," said Bevington.

"If that takes us anywhere? That’s a different set of circumstances and it’s important for myself to be extremely respectful to the people in office in Ibrox as well.

"I’m not trying to pull anything on with them but would I be willing to have a conversation with them? Of course I would.

“I do know one or two people in and around Rangers. I made some initial contact quite some time ago now but I have not had any dialogue with Rangers with regard to this position.”

However, it's reported John Bennett could opt against talks with Bevington after his role in introducing Kyle Fox to the club with a proposed investment. The negotiations fell flat with legal proceedings brought against the businesswoman.

Bevington clarified: “The situation you are talking about from two years ago, my role there was the person who was introducing one or two people.

"This lady in particular was looking to bring investment into the European football market and these conversations happen with football clubs all over the world on a frequent basis.

"That ship has long since sailed as far as I’m aware and I have no direct involvement or relationship with the person concerned."
