Adorable dog who is a 'lovable doofus' is desperately searching for new home

He is a 'lovable doofus' who loves spending time with humans - but he doesn't have an owner to spoil with his affection.

One-year-old Rolo was taken in by Oakwood Dog Rescue in Hull after spending time in another animal rescue shelter.

The chocolate Labrador has been described as a "giant puppy" who can get "very bouncy and boisterous" when excited.

A spokeswoman at Oakwood Dog Rescue said: "If you're looking for a lovable doofus in your life then look no further.

"He is a very friendly boy and loves meeting new people. The team at Oakwood are trying to teach him how to be calm and show him some basic manners."

As Rolo is very strong on a lead, he needs a patient owner who can teach him how to walk at a calmer pace.

"He can also have some lead frustration which means when he sees another dog he can bark and lunge," the spokeswoman added.

"He doesn't always understand why he can't get to them so he still needs to learn how to manage his excitement and emotions.

"The team at Oakwood let him have off-lead play dates in the secure fields with his friend Ghost. He is very playful, sometimes a little too full on.

"His new family need to be willing to work on his dog social skills to he can practice both polite play time as well as calm greetings on a lead. "

Rolo cannot live with children under 14-years-old and those older than this should have experience with strong, bouncy dogs.

He is still under assessment to discover whether he can live with another dog. He cannot live with cats.

The spokeswoman added: "He is a really fantastic, loveable boy who would make the perfect companion for someone who has the time and patience to put into his training.

"He has so much potential and, in the right home, will become a well-rounded dog."

Oakwood Dog Rescue has been helping to rehome unwanted dogs since 2009, mainly working to rescue those living a life of misery in Romania.

A statement reads: "The rescue helps all dogs they can, of any breed, where they come from in the world or age including those with special needs or behaviour issues.

"The goal is to rehabilitate and re-home them to loving homes, where they can live out the rest of their years in a happy, loving environment.

"Great things can be achieved with the help of our many generous supporters working together towards a common goal, creating more happiness for every dog that ends up at Oakwood Dog Rescue."
