When dropping a dog off at a rescue shelter, you hope they'll be adopted within a few months - but this isn't always the case.
Baby Girl, a crossbreed, spent five years at The Capital Humane Society waiting for an owner to come forward and offer her a place in their home and heart.
And just as she was about to give up on hope, it finally happened.
According to The Capital Humane Society, Baby Girl arrived at their Nebraska shelter in 2017 and spent "nearly five years" in their care before being rehomed this year.
A spokesperson said: "It was a big day for all of us at The Capital Humane Society because it was our beloved Baby Girl's 'Gotcha Day'.

"Now that she's had a little time to settle into her forever home, we wanted to share this exciting news will all of her fans."
Providing an update on how she has been settling in to her new home, her owner said: "Baby Girl has brought so much joy to my life.
"She loves her daily walks and going outside. She loves her yard and would rather be outside sunning herself than being inside any day.
"She can’t get enough belly rubs and she has to be touching me at all times. She will lay her head on my leg and paw me until I pay attention to her.
"She absolutely loves going on car rides and sticking her head out the window to get fresh air.
"Baby Girl has really settled into my home and bonded with me and my mum so well, I can’t imagine not having her in my life.
"She is very much a one person dog but doesn’t care about other people/dogs as long as she has her space.
"I can’t thank the staff enough for taking such good care of her and letting me have a chance at giving her a forever home. I could not have asked for a better dog."
While the seven-year-old dog enjoys her new life, others continue to search for understanding owners before time runs out.
Poor Monty has spent eight years at Last Chance Animal Rescue, in Edenbridge - but has received very little interest throughout his stay.
The poor pooch, now eight-years-old, spent his first year of life crammed into a small cage - and has developed a hunched back because his previous owners kept him locked inside it for 24 hours a day.
Understandably, he has trust issues with humans - but, thanks to the team at Last Chance, he has been learning not everybody wants to hurt him.
A spokesperson said: "Monty he has been with us for nearly eight years and rarely gets asked after sadly.
"The reason we have had Monty with us for so long is that he is not an easy dog but we are sure there may be someone out there he could call his own and will love him for what he is, a slightly damaged rogue."
Monty must be rehomed to one owner because he "doesn't want to share and can become very jealous", which can lead him to being aggressive.
He cannot live with other animals and will bark at other dogs when he is taken out on walks. The troubled boy needs to wear a muzzle in public places.
