'Adopt cricket diplomacy': Moin Khan urges resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral ties

The India-Pakistan clash in the Champions Trophy on Sunday has provided another opportunity for former cricketers to appeal for reviving the cricketing ties between the two estranged neighbours, as ex-Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan urged for the same while expressing disappointment over India's refusal to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

Six teams are being hosted by Pakistan, but the Indian team is camping in Dubai as part of a hybrid arrangement after the Board of Control for Cricket in India refused to send the team to Pakistan.

"Unfortunately, the Indian cricket team is not coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. When all the top teams are coming for this mega ICC event, then why can't India?" Moin asked, while talking on Telecom Asia Sport.

"I strongly feel the people and officials from both nations, as well as the two boards, should adopt cricket diplomacy to make things work and help resume Pak-India bilateral matches regularly," he added.

India haven't travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. However, the last limited-overs bilateral series between the two countries happened in India in 2012-13.

The Pakistan team visited India in 2023 as well for the ODI World Cup.

"I assure you that millions of fans here are eager to watch live mega stars like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and others in Lahore and Karachi; but it is really sad that they have not come to Pakistan this time (for Champions Trophy)," Moin said.
