Adil Rashid dismisses Virat Kohli for record-equalling 11th time across formats

NEW DELHI: England’s experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid once again proved to be Virat Kohli’s nemesis, dismissing the Indian batting star for the 11th time in international cricket during the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

With this latest dismissal, Rashid has joined an elite group of bowlers who have troubled Kohli the most across formats. He now shares the distinction with New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, both of whom have also dismissed Kohli 11 times in international cricket.

Rashid outfoxed Kohli with a beautifully flighted delivery that spun sharply, taking the outside edge before being safely collected by wicketkeeper Phil Salt. This marked the second consecutive match in which Rashid had dismissed Kohli in a similar manner, having claimed his wicket in the second ODI in Pune as well.

Rashid’s success against Kohli spans all three formats, with five dismissals in ODIs, four in Tests, and two in T20Is. His variations and sharp turn have consistently posed a challenge for the Indian stalwart, making him one of the most effective spinners against Kohli.

Earlier in the match, Kohli showcased his class by scoring his 73rd ODI half-century off 50 balls. Meanwhile, opener Shubman Gill continued his fine form, smashing back-to-back fifties and converting his innings into a sublime seventh ODI century in just 95 deliveries.

Bowlers who dismissed Virat Kohli the most:

Tim Southee (New Zealand) – 11 dismissals in 37 matchesJosh Hazlewood (Australia) – 11 dismissals in 29 matchesAdil Rashid (England) – 11 dismissals in 34 matchesMoeen Ali (England) – 10 dismissals in 41 matchesJames Anderson (England) – 10 dismissals in 37 matches
