Adele made a jibe at the BRIT Awards' new gender-neutral awards as she picked up Artist of the Year tonight.
The Someone Like You singer took home one of the top prizes at the ceremony in London this evening, one of three gongs she picked up tonight including Song of the Year for Easy On Me and Mastercard Album of the Year.
The pop star is the first winner of the Artist of the Year award, with the awards previously being split into genders and were known as Best British Male and Best British Female in the past.
Adele referenced the change as she took to the stage to collect the award.
She shared: "This is amazing, I really wasn't expecting this one at all. I love being an artist, I really do, and I genuinely can't believe it's my job," as she praised some of the other nominated artists.
She later added: "I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman."
The BRITs changed their format this year to remove the gendered awards.
Tom March, BRIT Chairman and Co-President of Polydor Records, confirmed at the time that they had taken the decision to change the award to be gender neutral with Best British Male and Best British Female scrapped.
He said at the time: "It is important that the BRITs continue to evolve and aim to be as inclusive as possible. It feels completely the right time to celebrate the achievements of artists for the music that they create, and the work that they do, irrespective of gender."
The move was hailed by Sam Smith, who identifies as non-binary, and they were thrilled by their decision.
However, some weren't keen on the idea, with Piers Morgan slamming the 'woke' BRITs for making the change, as he wrote at the time: "What a load of woke garbage. Won’t be long before it’s illegal to call yourself a man or woman."
The BRITs saw Adele pick up three gongs, whilst Ed Sheeran won Songwriter of the Year. Other winners included Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Sam Fender, Little Simz, Becky Hill and rapper Dave.
