Adele has reportedly left her boyfriend Rich Paul frustrated and ‘spooked’ after joking she might have to cancel her Las Vegas residency performances if she gets pregnant.
The 33-year-old chart topping star was due to commence a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace last month for a string of hotly anticipated performances – but cancelled at the last minute.
Featuring on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month, Adele insisted that the shows would absolutely go ahead at some point later this year – before teasing that the shows “had” to happen this year because she has plans for 2023.
She then joked: “Imagine if I have to cancel [the Las Vegas shows] because I’m pregnant!’
The quip is said to have taken Adele’s 40-year-old businessman boyfriend Rich by surprise as he was allegedly under the impression their plans to try for a baby were a closely guarded secret.
A source told heat magazine: “Adele just blurting out the plan for them to have a baby next year has left Rich feeling spooked.
“Yes, it’s something they have discussed, but he had no idea their private plans would be broadcast and then splashed all over the world’s headlines.
“He knew what he was signing up for when he began dating Adele, but he doesn’t like their intimate moments becoming fodder for gossip, and he didn’t think Adele did, either. It’s definitely caused an awkward silence or two between them.”
Mirror has contacted representatives of both Adele and Rich for comment.
While Adele and Rich are rumoured to be engaged, the singer was previously married to businessman Simon Konecki from 2018 until 2021 and together they share a nine-year-old son named Angelo – who features on Adele’s recent album, 30.
Fans of the singer were left flabbergasted and annoyed last month when she cancelled her Las Vegas residency at the eleventh hour – when some fans were halfway across the Atlantic on flights to see her perform.
Initially she blamed a Covid outbreak for the abrupt cancellation of the show – but reports soon emerged that she’d actually had a meltdown over her set design.
Quotes suggested the singer snapped that the stage resembled a “baggy old pond” and she “refused, point blank, to stand in the middle of it”.
A source said last month: “The intention was to fill it with water on the set as she was lifted up on a crane-type mechanism, creating the illusion she was floating on water.”
Meanwhile, reports over the weekend suggested Adele will in fact return to Sin City this summer to finally perform her shows.
A gap in performance dates between Sting, Sir Rod Stewart and Kieth Urban suggest the British singer will be on stage for dates between June 18th and September 23rd.
