Adele Roberts breaks world record as she completes London Marathon with a stoma bag

Adele Roberts has broken a world record as she became the fastest woman to finish the London Marathon with a stoma bag.

She was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in 2021 before undergoing treatment and eventually being given the all-clear.

Adele was fitted with a stoma bag - a device used to collect waste that usually passes through the colon.

On Sunday, the 44-year-old BBC Radio 1 DJ was awarded with a Guinness World Record after completing the marathon in three hours 30 minutes and 22 seconds.

The official Guinness World Record’s Twitter page posted a snap of Adele with her certificate after the race.

"Adele Roberts completed the fastest marathon with an ileostomy (female) in 3:30:22," they wrote. "Congratulations, Adele!"

After the marathon, Adele made a tiny replica of the medal for her stoma bag.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, she said: "We got the record. I was like ‘oh my gosh did we actually do it.’

"For ages I didn’t know my time because my watch broke and I couldn’t tell because I set off quite late…so I was just really hoping that I’d managed to do it.

"Thank you so much to everybody who was actually in the race, there was so many lovely people on the course and also everybody who came out the cheer even though it was raining."

She continued: “We did it, up yours cancer.”

Earlier this month, Adele revealed she was receiving chemotherapy while filming for Celebrity Bake Off.

Adele took to the kitchen in Celebrity Bake Off, which raises funds and awareness for Stand Up To Cancer, alongside Tom Daley, David Morrissey and Lucy Beaumont.

While she didn't win the show, Adele impressed the judges with her excellent baking skills.

Reflecting on the show, the presenter revealed that she had been receiving treatment at the time.

"I was actually on chemo in the tent. I was overheating most of the time. I had an ice machine to keep me cool," she penned on Instagram.

"I also can’t remember most of this. I know I had an amazing day… but watching it back now is so special."
