Adele and Charlie Puth pay tribute to late Matthew Perry during their concerts

The news of Matthew Perry's sudden demise has sent shockwaves in Hollywood and the world at large, with fans, friends and film stars taking to social media to pay tribute and honour his memory.

Celebrities including singers Adele and Charlie Puth also paid their tribute to the late actor during their concert shows. Charlie, who is touring Australia, asked fans to join him sing the 'Friends' theme song 'I'll Be There For You' as a powerful and moving tribute. He also dedicated his song 'See You Again' to the late actor.

The song 'See You Again' was an original soundtrack of the 'Fast and Furious 7' film that was created as a tribute to actor Paul Walker, who died in a tragic car crash.

Miles away at her Las Vegas residency, Adele, who began her Halloween special show over the weekend, dressed up as Morticia Addams and took to the stage to perform her hit tracks. While introducing her song 'When We Were Young', the British singer-songwriter then surprised all by pausing her show to pay tribute to Perry. "I'll remember that character for the rest of my life," the star said of Perry's 'Friends' character Chandler Bing to cheers from the audience at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

"He's probably the best comedic character of all time," Adele said and began her set. About two-thirds through her set, as she worked her way through the audience to collect favourite childhood memories from attendees. "One of my friends Andrew when I was, like, 12 did the best Chandler impression," the singer recalled from the stage, quoted by 'Los Angeles Times'.

She added, "He would do it all the time to make us laugh and if any of us were having a bad day or feeling low he would just pretend to be Chandler." Adele, who made her own decision to stop drinking earlier this year, also addressed Perry's issues with alcohol and opioid addiction, which he wrote about in his 2022 memoir, 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing'.

"He was so open with his struggles with addiction and sobriety, which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave," she said.

Though the singer, 35, noted that she had "never met [Perry] in my life," she mentioned him again later in the show after bursting into tears when she spotted her OB-GYN in the audience, "It's a very emotional night".

Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on 'Friends', died on Saturday. He was 54. According to reports, the actor was found dead on in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. Authorities found him unresponsive around 4 pm, and there were no signs of foul play or drugs on the scene.

At first, his death was ruled as an 'accidental drowning', however, an initial autopsy report released by the coroner's office stated that the report had been 'deferred' and that more tests would have to be conducted to determine a cause of death.
