Adam Thomas speaks honestly about financial struggles after Emmerdale exit

Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has spoken openly about the struggles he’s faced since leaving the soap.

Adam Thomas, 34, will be reprising his role of Donte Charles in Waterloo Road when the BBC school-based drama returns in January. The reboot of the show is its first new run of episodes since 2015.

Earlier in his career, Adam played Adam Barton in Emmerdale. He’s spoken to OK! about the insecurity in an actor’s life after leaving a steady soap role.

Adam, who took a step back from acting to focus on business enterprises after leaving Emmerdale, said: “Ever since I left Emmerdale, I’ve been going from job to job, not knowing necessarily where my next pay cheque is coming from. It’s tough and it’s a lot to take on. I think this job (the Waterloo Road return) has helped a lot because it’s just brought stability into our lives.

“It was a year’s contract and I knew what money I was getting. I felt like I could breathe. But now I’m like, ‘what am I doing next?’. I find it quite tough to be present and try and enjoy as much as I can instead of thinking about what’s coming next.”

The actor will be reunited with his former co-star and on-screen wife in the show, Katie Griffiths who plays Chlo Charles, as well as Angela Griffin as Kim Campbell. In a cute twist, Adam’s son Teddy and 14-year-old niece Scarlett – the eldest daughter of his soap star brother Ryan – will play his on-screen children.
