While the Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Commanders on Sunday at FedEx Field, there was a scary moment in the second quarter of the contest.
Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker, while trying to chase down Commanders wide receiver Curtis Samuel, was hit from the side by his teammate, safety Brandon Jones. The replay showed Jones hitting Baker in his leg while it was still planted on the ground.
The linebacker was helped off of the field and never returned to action.
On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided a somewhat positive update on Baker’s health, reporting that he the former Ohio State Buckeye suffered an MCL injury that’s considered week-to-week.
The Dolphins have five games left in their regular season, and they’re currently on pace to host playoff games at Hard Rock Stadium. So, even if Miami were to be cautious with Baker and allow him extra time to heal, he’d have over a month to do so before the postseason begins.
In the meantime, they could look outside the organization or rely on David Long Jr., Duke Riley and Channing Tindall to man the interior for now.
