Adam Reid at The French is to launch a shorter, ‘more accessible’ version of its Signature tasting menu. The menu will be available midweek, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, through August, and will cost £75 a head.
The menu is usually £140 a head per person on Saturday nights, and £125 from Wednesday to Friday, with £85 for the accompanying wine. The new midweek menu comes with a ‘Tipsy’ drink pairing, for £40, and a ‘Not So Tipsy’ offering of soft drinks for £30.
Among the dishes on offer on the ‘Initials’ menu will be Peter’s courgette blossom with eel & tongue, barbecued salt marsh lamb from the Rhug Estate with Wirral courgette and gravy, and baked English custard with mint and Cheshire strawberry.
Reid said “I appreciate that not everyone wants to experience a full tasting menu midweek, this new special menu has been created to cater for those who still want a taste of The French but don’t want a late night! We’re running the Initials menu throughout July and August, with matching drinks available, and will continue to offer our Signature menu throughout.”
He took over as head chef at The French, at the Midland Hotel, following L’Enclume chef Simon Rogan’s tenure at the restaurant. He became chef-patron in 2016, and has earned the restaurant four AA rosettes.
The Stalybridge-born chef will also be involved in the upcoming New Century food hall in the NOMA district. The newly-revamped live venue and bar will feature a foodhall space on the ground floor.
Reid will be launching a new sandwich project there, called The Butty Shop. It ‘aims to bring the British butty back to life, with classic Northern flavours built on the memories of childhood visits to the bakery’.
New Century is set to open later this summer.
