British swimming star Adam Peaty will be absent from the 4x100m medley relay heats today after testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday. This unfortunate development comes after Peaty secured a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke event, finishing just 0.02 seconds behind Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi who claimed the gold.
Peaty, who woke up with a sore throat on Sunday morning, displayed sportsmanship by crediting Martinenghi's performance for the outcome of the race. He emphasized that his health condition was not an excuse for the result, stating, 'These are not excuses, these are just things that athletes have to go through every day and never would I have an excuse for what is there.'
Although Peaty will miss today's relay heats, there is still a possibility that he may participate in the final if Team GB qualifies. The defending champions will aim to secure their spot in the final on Saturday, with Peaty potentially rejoining the team if they advance.
