Adam Lallana to miss Liverpool match after triple injury blow for Brighton

Adam Lallana is set to miss another reunion with his former club when Liverpool take on Brighton in the FA Cup Fourth round on Sunday.

The 34-year-old midfielder is one of three Seagulls players sidelined with injuries this weekend, Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed. Lallana was part of the Brighton team that dismantled Jurgen Klopp's side 3-0 in the corresponding Premier League fixture at the AMEX Community stadium just two weeks ago.

But Lallana was forced off with a muscular injury last weekend against Leicester City and will play no part in the match. Also out of the contest is Levi Colwill, who is recovering from a quad injury and Facundo Buonanotte, who suffered a spinal issue while on international duty for Argentina under-20s.

Premier League winner Lallana joined Brighton from Liverpool in 2020 on a free transfer and is an established first team starter this season, making 16 league appearances so far this season.

Speaking about Lallana and Colwill in his pre-match press conference on Friday, De Zerbi said: "Yes, they are not able to play. I think [Lallana] will be out for a couple of weeks. He is one of the most important players inside of the squad."

Liverpool will have their own injuries problems, with Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Arthur Melo all still absent for this weekend's cup clash.

Cup replays are still possible in the Fourth Round this season, meaning that a draw on Saturday would take the tie back to Anfield for a second attempt. As per the current rules, replays will not be in place for the Fifth Round onwards.
