Adam Forshaw injury latest as Leeds United man undergoes 'procedure'

Adam Forshaw is currently rated as touch and go for Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Cardiff City, Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has confirmed. The midfielder started the Whites last two Premier League games in 2022, but he wasn’t involved in the squad at all on Wednesday night against West Ham United and his absence was noted.

It’s already been a long season for the 31-year-old, with injuries restricting him to making just six appearances in all competitions. He started the season relatively well but Marsch revealed in October that Forshaw was struggling with a hernia issue that would require him to go under the knife.

That problem would rule him out until Leeds returned to Premier League action last month and with Tyler Adams suspended, Forshaw came into the starting XI to face Manchester City and he started again against Newcastle United on New Year’s Eve. He was withdrawn at half-time in the latter contest, though, prompting questions about his fitness.

As such, Marsch was asked about Forshaw’s situation after the 2-2 draw with the Hammers and he revealed the midfielder has been struggling with hip pain. However, the head coach has allayed any longer-term lay-off concerns and he hopes to see him back in contention sooner rather than later.

“We had a little procedure done with him today that we think is a couple days and then we'll see how he recovers,” Marsch confirmed on Wednesday night. “It's his hip that is causing him some issues.

“We're hopeful, it's like a little shot that can help loosen things up and hopefully help him with the pain.”
