Renate Reinsve, the breakout star of Joachim Trier's 2021 film 'The Worst Person in the World,' almost pursued a career in carpentry before landing the lead role that catapulted her to international fame. Frustrated with the roles offered in Norway, Reinsve had contemplated setting up a carpentry school for young girls and women. However, a call from Trier changed her plans, leading to critical acclaim and awards for her performance as Julie in the Cannes-premiered film.
Reinsve's success continued at the 74th Berlinale, where she starred in two competition films, 'A Different Man' and 'Another End,' showcasing her versatility and talent. Reflecting on her transition to English-language films, Reinsve acknowledged the challenges of adapting to different cultures and work environments in the U.S. and Italy.
