Actor Sean Penn has told fans that he 'walked miles' to the Polish border after being caught up in the Ukraine invasion.
Russia's invasion is now in its sixth day but Russian forces have made "little progress" in their advance on capital Kyiv over the past 24 hours, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, however, has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could respond to resistance in Ukraine with "even more barbaric tactics".
Penn revealed his situation in a tweet posted on Monday evening (February 28).
He shared the message alongside a picture of him wheeling his case down a car-lined road.
"Myself & two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after abandoning our car on the side of the road," Penn wrote, clearly showing the queues of traffic.
"Almost all the cars in this photo carry women & children only, most without any sign of luggage, and a car their only possession of value."
The tweet quickly garnered widespread attention.
It is believed that is working on a documentary about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
On Friday pictures were released of Penn, 61, at a press briefing at the Presidential Office in Kyiv.
He was snapped wearing sunglasses and with the collar of his jacket turned up, with a colleague sat close beside him to assist with translation, Sky News reported.
The Ukrainian president's office's Facebook page shared a post praising the star, writing: "Sean Penn demonstrates the courage that many others, especially Western politicians, lack.
"The director specially came to Kiev to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia's invasion of our country."
Penn also released a statement on Friday night (February 25) condemning Russian president Vladimir Putin for making a “horrible mistake for all of humankind”.
The I Am Sam actor is known for his humanatian work and previously directed the 2020 documentary Citizen Penn, which followed him as he founded his non-profit organisation Core (Community Organised Relief Effort) in the wake of the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
