Actor Jamie Foxx has been rushed to hospital after suffering a “medical emergency”.

Foxx’s daughter Corinne revealed the medical update on social media on Thursday (AEST).

“We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday (April 11),” her Instagram post read.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”

Foxx’s family, some of whom weren’t in town, rushed to hospital to be by the 55-year-old’s side, TMZ reported.

“He’s communicating now, and that’s good news,” one source said.

Ms Foxx said her father had received great care” and was on the mend.

“We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time,” she wrote.

It is unclear how long Foxx will remain in hospital. His exact symptoms and the nature of the medical emergency have not been revealed.

Foxx, 55, is best known for role in Django Unchained and his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biopic Ray. The Oscar-winning actor has most recently been filming Back in Action in Atlanta for Netflix, with costars Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz.

It is unclear if Foxx’s illness has affected the Back in Action shooting schedule.

Details of his medical emergency came a day after Close and Diaz were snapped filming scenes for Back in Action on a soccer field in Atlanta.

Before that, Diaz and Foxx had been spotted filming scenes for the movie in London multiple times in recent months. In one set of pictures taken in March, the pair were filming in the British countryside.

Representatives for the actor have been approached for comment.
