Actor Akili McDowell, known for his roles in television series such as 'David Makes Man,' 'Billions,' and 'The Astronaut Wives Club,' has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Houston. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Houston apartment complex, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Cesar Peralta.
McDowell, 21, was charged with murder by the Harris County sheriff's office last week and is currently being held on a $400,000 bond. The authorities responded to a call about a shooting on July 20 and found Peralta with gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that Peralta had been involved in a physical altercation with another man, who fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
McDowell's manager, Jonell Whitt, expressed condolences for the situation and stated that she is in prayer for McDowell and those affected by the tragedy. McDowell's attorney listed in court records has not provided any comments at this time.
'David Makes Man,' the series in which McDowell starred, followed the story of a teen named David navigating relationships in his South Florida neighborhood. McDowell also made appearances in 'Billions,' 'The Astronaut Wives Club,' and has a role in the recently released movie 'The Waterboyz.'
