Activist offers ‘laxative-laced brownies’ to school board members during meeting

An activist presented school board members with brownies “laced with laxatives” during a meeting.

On Tuesday (2 June), Meghan Perry, a critic of Nantucket’s proposed $26 million artificial turf project, approached the podium at the Nantucket School Committee as their session began.

Opponents of the plan say poly and perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) found in the synthetic turf are a danger to public health, according to the Nantucket Current.

“I brought these for you guys,” she said as she handed over a plate.

“It is my understanding they do have a non-detect level of Ex-Lax in them, but I figured since we’re OK with a non-detect level PFAS it would probably be OK,” Perry said.

Committee chair Laura Gallagher has since filed a police report against Perry for the stunt, she told local media.

The Independent has reached out to Nantucket Police for comment.
