If you were on the receiving end of a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 ban for using “unauthorized software,” you aren’t alone in the multiplayer game. Activision recently issued permanent bans for hundreds of Modern Warfare 2 players, and while some of the bans may have been warranted – with unwanted software being a polite term for cheating software and other hacks – many players say they were just enjoying the game as normal.
Some players reported the software they used was just normal, legal third-party software that lets them use certain controllers with Modern Warfare 2. Others said they used overclocking software and VPNs, which may have caused a conflict, and some did admit to using cheat software, but only with other games – not Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
Activision has yet to acknowledge the problem or issue a response, prompting some rather inadvisable actions on the part of one fan, who decided to visit Activision headquarters to try and get some clarification on the situation. Security turned them away, and you absolutely shouldn’t try doing that yourself.
Meanwhile, until Activision issues an official response, you may want to try not using any third-party software with Modern Warfare 2 if at all possible. And definitely disable the hacks and cheats.
