JAIPUR: There was no respite from scorching heat conditions on Sunday when majority of the places witnessed maximum temperatures on or above 40°C. Barmer remained the hottest logging 43.5°C, the Met said.
Attributing the continued rise in mercury to active northerly winds and absence of factors including upper air cyclonic circulation and western disturbances, weathermen said heatwave conditions will further aggravate in the next couple of days.
People in Jaipur though woke up to a less warmer morning with a minimum temperature of 23.8°C. It was followed by a scorching afternoon as the temperature soared to 40.4°C. Due to continued rise in mercury, people preferred to stay indoors and went out to have some cold beverages to beat the heat. “There has been a continuous rise in mercury across the state and Jaipur is no exception. Since the factors including western disturbances and upper air cyclonic circulation are missing, the summers this year will witness more days of heatwaves,” said weathermen.
Barmer was followed by Dholpur where a maximum temperature of 43.3°C was recorded.
“Severe heatwaves are expected by mid-April at some places in western and some places in the eastern Rajasthan,” said an officer.
In this year so far, people witnessed unusual changes in the weather from mid-March. “March has been warmest in past 20 years in Rajasthan where many places have witnessed its average maximum temperatures almost 7 degrees above normal,” the officer added.
In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said mercury will continue to rise across the state on Monday with some places likely to log 43°C.
