AMC's streaming service Acorn TV has acquired the crime thriller series 'The Truth,' co-written by Daphna Levin and Aurit Zamir. The series, sold by About Premium Content, has been picked up by Acorn TV for distribution in the U.S., the U.K., and Australia/New Zealand. Set in Tel Aviv, 'The Truth' unfolds on the day of the final verdict for a highly controversial murder case in Israel, a decade after the initial incident occurred in a high school gym. A new murder takes place on the same day, mirroring the circumstances of the previous crime. Juvenile inspector Rachel Zohar, a former student at the high school during the first murder, is tasked with solving the case, forcing her to confront her past trauma. Levin, in addition to co-writing, also directed the series.
Produced by Kim Younes-Charbit at Elvie Productions and Leo Maidenberg at Place du Marché, with co-production by Adi Bar Yosef at Endemol Shine Israel, 'The Truth' is part of a new wave of content led by strong Israeli female creatives. The series features well-developed female characters, including the lead detective portrayed by newcomer Mor Dimri.
Another notable series, 'Hooligans,' co-written by Lee Gilat and Izhar Harlev, centers around Meni Azulai, a delivery boy who becomes an unwitting infiltrator in the Israeli right-wing movement. Directed by Ilan Aboody, the show was commissioned by Canal+ in France and Kan 11 in Israel. 'Hooligans' is produced by Younes-Charbit, Maidenberg, and Artza Productions.
Elvie Productions is also working on two documentary projects. 'Ukraine: au nom du patrimoine,' directed by war reporter Thomas Raguet, explores efforts to preserve cultural heritage in war-torn Ukraine. The second documentary focuses on a special unit formed after the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris to combat violent extremism, directed by Richard Berthollet and co-produced by Claude-Sophie Antoine at Nola Films.
