MUMBAI: A 30-year-old theft accused, being brought to Mumbai from UP, jumped off the long-distance train and later died at a hospital in Nashik. He was identified as Tabarat Rayani, 30.
Rayani was a resident of Balrampur in UP. He had been booked in a case of theft by Kandivali police. On July 18, the Kandivali police team reached Balrampur. With the help of the local police, they picked up Rayani around 2 am on July 19.
Around 9. 30 am on July 20, the police team boarded the Pushpak Express from Lucknow with Rayani. Around 5 am on July 21, the train was approaching Manmad station when Rayani said he wanted to attend nature’s call. A police constable was escorting him to the toilet when Rayani pushed him away and jumped off the running train.
The police team alighted at Manmad station and went to look for Rayani. They found him lying next to the tracks with injuries to his head, hands and legs. He was taken to the government hospital at Nashik where he died on July 22.
