Accord Hospice fundraising reaches happy milestone

Fundraising at Accord hospice has reached a happy milestone with a fantastic £500,000 raised through its popular second-hand shops.

Staff had been busy contacting all six shops to work out when the target would be reached.

And it happened to be Margaret Thomson from Ibrox, who is a regular shopper, who pushed them over the limit after she bought what turned out to be a lucky pair of shoes at the Glasgow Road store.

Her purchase took the total over £500,000 and she was presented with £100-worth of personally signed golden £20 notes which she can use in the store any time.

David McFadden, Fundraising and Communications Manager said: “There were some frantic calculations regarding takings and calls over the past few hours involving all of our shops.

“Margaret was delighted as she said she never wins anything.”

Accord Hospice has six stores including the Glasgow Road superstore, Causeyside Street and the Paisley Centre, all in Paisley; Dunlop Street in Renfrew; High Street in Johnstone and Main Street in Barrhead. They are open and available to collect donations.

There is also a clothing bank at the Glasgow Road superstore which is available 24-hours a day. It is maintained by Accord and all donations are processed by its shops team.

Alastair Crae, Accord’s director of finance and governance said: “I want to take this opportunity to personally thank Sheila, Morag, Harry, George and Jim and all of the shops and store volunteers including our relief drivers for their fantastic support in getting to this number, especially in the current climate.

“Their hard work in running our shops is incredible. This all comes from the support of our local community with the phenomenal volume of donations we received across all of our and to everyone who shops at the Hospice stores. You are making a real difference.

“Helping the Hospice to continue to look after those in our care both at home and in the Hospice. At the end of the day, this is what Accord is all about.”
