Accies agony as Twitter thread depicts Scots teams as US Office characters

A Twitter user had people in stitches with his hilarious thread depicting Scottish football clubs as characters from the US Office.

But it's not so flattering for one Lanarkshire team who have been compared to the not-so-popular Toby Flenderson from the hit TV show.

In the thread, which was started by James Archie, Hamilton Accies are likened to Dunder Mifflin's HR rep with the caption: "Just a monumental pain in the a*** to get rid of.

"Just when you think they’re gone they’ll come back."

James says the Hamilton /Toby line was the first of 16 that came to mind as he recalled years of fellow clubs being perplexed at how Accies never seemed to get relegated from the Scottish Premiership.

One of the most iconic scenes in the US Office shows Steve Carrell's character, Michael Scott, distraught to learn that Toby has returned to working for the company after thinking his departure was permanent - marking the famous contempt he has for him.

In the scene Michael is seen shouting "No! God! No God please no!" before screaming "no!" over and over again.

Harshly, this is described as other football teams fearing that Accies will inevitably return to the Scottish top flight - a pretty brutal resemblance for the Lanarkshire club!

The funny thread also depicts Celtic as Dwight Schrute, saying: "Either totally ingenious and unbeatable or mind-blowingly self-destructive. No in-between. The whole thing wouldn’t work without them".

Meanwhile Rangers are compared to one of the show's accountants, Angela Martin.

The Office's Ryan (the temp) is likened to St Johnstone for his "all or nothing" time on the show which sees the character land a top corporate job before eventually being at the bottom of the pile again after being fired - aptly compared to the Perth club's struggles this season after a domestic cup double last year.

It was captioned: "One minute you’re on top of the world breaking all sorts of records, the next you’ve been relegated. Maybe."

Motherwell were depicted as Pam Beesly for "performing above expectations".

And St Mirren were described as the league's old timers and given the show's oldest character, Creed Bratton.

Speaking on how he came up with the Twitter thread, James told Lanarkshire Live: "I’ve done a few threads before, usually political and they’ve been quite popular so I fancied trying a Scottish football one.

"Believe it or not, the joke about Hamilton and Toby was actually the first one I scribbled down and the rest kind of fell into place.

"I’m a big fan of the US office and have thought about doing something with those characters on Twitter before. I’ve also always followed Scottish football, I guess taking two things you know a fair bit about makes it easier to draw comparisons.

"I always remember loads of jokes about Hamilton being impossible to get rid of on pages like Old Firm Facts, so when I decided to do an Office/Cinch thread that joke almost wrote itself. The episode when Toby returns has to be one of my favourites."

The thread amused thousands on the social media platform, with one user saying: "This is brilliant", while another added: "This is quite easily the best thread on Twitter".

A third posted laughing emojis and remarked: "Love the US Office, this is class", while a fourth told: "A very accurate thread. My only criticism is Jim being Hibs. He deserves better than Hibs."

And one user said: "Nailed this!" while another wrote: "Well if there’s one thing I can get on board with it’s an Office and Scottish football crossover. Some thread."
