'Abuser' weds stranger on Married at First Sight UK after 'three exes warn police'

Married At First Sight UK star George Roberts married a stranger on TV despite three exes reportedly lodging complaints of his alleged emotional abuse to the police.

The 40-year-old is appearing on the current series of Married at First Sight UK which airs week nights at 9pm on E4. Dating experts paired the father-of-four up with former Ms Great Britain April Banbury, and they immediately hit it off when they met for the first time at the altar.

It has now surfaced that George has allegedly now been accused of 'emotional abuse' from three of his ex-girlfriends who claim to have made police complaints about him after they heard that he was set to appear on the show, writes The Mirror.

George's three ex-girlfriends allegedly made independent complaints to police about his alleged 'obsessive', 'manipulative' and 'abusive' behaviour, according to The Sun. The three women were reportedly left 'horrified' after seeing George in trailers for the current series of the E4 match-making show.

After raising their concerns with police, the three women claim that their worries were ignored by officials and Channel 4. They each allegedly told police that the financial advisor 'love-bombed' them by showering them with affection and gifts before they claim his behaviour turned 'coercive and controlling'.

Speaking to The Sun, one of George's exes claimed: "I’m so shocked to see he has been given a platform on a TV show. I messaged Married at First Sight. I said I reported him to the police.

"They asked for additional information which I gave and I never heard anything further.” George's second ex claimed: "I contacted Married at First Sight, E4 and All4 and the producers to tell them he was a known emotional and mental abuser of women.”

Meanwhile his third former girlfriend claimed: "I sent everything I had. They said they would be looking into it.” George is a father-of-four dad of four from Worcestershire.

A spokesperson for Roberts said: “George categorically denies these allegations. As a father of daughters he finds these accusations deeply upsetting and does not condone abuse nor behaves in that way. These allegations were never brought to his attention, investigated or taken further by the police for good reason as they are simply not true.”

Meanwhile, Channel 4, which runs E4, claimed rigorous checks were made on the contestants and 'any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously'.

A spokesperson told The Mirror: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake. Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”
