Sam Allardyce has doubled down on his claim that he is as good a manager as Pep Guardiola.
In his first press conference as Leeds United boss, the 68-year-old raised eyebrows by suggesting he is “up there” with Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta.
“Far too many people think I am old and antiquated, which is so far from the truth,” Allardyce told reporters. “I might be 68 and look old but there’s nobody ahead of me in football terms.

“Not Pep, not Klopp, not Arteta. It’s all there with me. They do what they do, I do what I do. But in terms of knowledge and depth of knowledge, I’m up there with them. I’m not saying I’m better than them, but certainly as good as they are.”
And now, in an interview with Sky Sports, Allardyce insisted he could win the treble if he were standing in the opposite dugout.
“Absolutely (whether he could win the treble with Man City),” Allardyce said. “The players make you a good manager or coach. Your job is to communicate with those players.
“I wouldn’t say it is easier, it’s a lot more enjoyable. But you still see the worry and pressure on Pep’s face because the demand is so much higher. Our demand is to try and stay in the Premier League.
“How would Man City see failure? Well, if they didn’t win the league or only won one cup competition, that would be a poor season for them.”
