Dramatic footage of a HGV truck crashing into three parked vehicles on a quiet residential street shows a trail of ‘absolute carnage’ left behind. Residents woke to a 'really loud bang' when the truck ploughed into two cars and a van in Edgerton, near Bolton.
CCTV footage showed the truck steam into two parked cars and a van before crushing them against three separate walls, which collapsed in the process. Locksmith Anthony Ashton, 34, whose van and partner’s Nissan Qashqai were both crushed, described the scene as a “war zone”.

He had been in bed when the truck came storming down the street and said he was “completely shocked” at the damage caused in Blackburn Road at 7.30am on Tuesday.
Mr Ashton said: “I was bloody gutted. It was like I was looking at a war zone. I went outside and saw absolute carnage. There were walls demolished, our cars had gone, and one of the neighbours’ cars had gone as well.
"I first looked up the road and couldn’t see anything. Then I turned around and said, “Oh there’s my van! Why is it over there? Why is it five feet in the air? And why is it that funny shape?” My wife’s car was in pieces. It was then picked up by the recovery vehicle.”
Anthony believes the truck may have done up to £5,000 worth of damage, with many of the tools that were in his van left mangled and unusable.
He said: “I’m pretty sure 90 per cent are lost or broken, and I’d say they are worth about £5,000. My key cutting machine for one, that’s £1,500. I’ve got some of them back, but I’m not sure what is working.”
Village resident Robyn Leigh Rimmer saw the aftermath of the incident and remarked that he was glad there were no injuries. He said: "Lots of children walk down the road to school, so thank god it was before school time or this could have been a lot worse."
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “At around 7:30am on Tuesday, 3rd May, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Blackburn Road, Bolton, involving three cars and a heavy goods vehicle.
“Two fire engines from Bolton Central and Bolton North fire stations were quickly in attendance. Firefighters removed the vehicles from the roadway and made the area safe, working alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police at the scene.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police added: "We were called shortly after 7.30am to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Blackburn Road, Egerton. No injuries have been reported and enquiries into the cause of the collision are ongoing."
The truck company has been contacted for comment.
