'About time' say passengers as Ryanair make 'change' that 'should be everywhere'

Ryanair passengers have said 'about time' after the airline gave an update surrounding duty-free on board their planes.

This week the popular budget airline confirmed new rules surrounding some duty-free items on some flights after rumours spread people would be banned from bringing alcohol on board. Earlier this month Ryanair informed those on some flights they would not be able to carry alcohol onto the plane.

Ryanair has since confirmed that though it is not banning booze altogether, passengers will not be able to open alcohol they have bought in duty-free on board their planes.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “We are not ‘banning’ or ‘confiscating’ duty-free alcohol at boarding gates. As per Ryanair’s T&Cs, passengers can carry duty-free alcohol onboard but must not consume it during the flight.”

It has come as good news for many Ryanair passengers, particularly those who have been affected by on-board drinking in the past. On Facebook, Anna Graham Patterson called it 'the best news [she] could hear'.

She added: "How people just can't wait until they arrive in their destination to have alcohol I'll never know."

Vicky Shea said: "Good....while most of us could be trusted, there's always those that spoil it for everyone and unfortunately put lives at risk when they kick off fighting in-flight. So this is a good thing."

Cathy Obi said the ban is 'for the best', with Brenda Riley saying it was 'about time, before something tragic happens'.

Karen Bradshaw said: "Good, poor cabin crew dealing with drunks and other passengers frightened in case they kick off fighting."

Peter Allen said: "The way some of these drunk passengers carry on during flight I'm surprised drinking on planes is not banned altogether."

Collette Townson Brakkell said the rule 'should be everywhere not just there'.
