Aberdeen star Luis 'Duk' Lopes named cinch Premiership player of the month

Aberdeen forward Luis 'Duk' Lopes has been named the cinch Premiership player of the month for March.

The 23-year-old scored three times last month as Aberdeen earned precious victories over Dundee United and Hearts.

Duk first netted a superb finish against United in a 3-1 win at Tannadice. He then scored a brace at Pittodire in a 3-0 win over rivals for third-spot Hearts.

Speaking after picking up the award, Duk said: “I am so pleased to have won this award. Since I arrived at the club, I have had fantastic support from the fans and have been able to go out and play my game and score goals.

“When you get the backing that I do from the fans, it gives you a lot more confidence when you go onto the pitch and they help me do unbelievable things.

“I also have fantastic team-mates. It is like a family. There is great morale in the dressing room because we all support each other and this is the most important thing in football.”

Lopes is just the second non-Celtic or Rangers player to win the monthly gong this season after Kevin Nisbet in January.

And it is a double celebration at Pittodrie with Barry Robson winning manager of the month for March.
