Darvel super hero Jordan Kirkpatrick helped his side pull off the giant-killing of Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup last night and the former Hamilton Accies and Clyde star admits it will take a while for the magnitude of the achievement to sink in.
The 30-year-old, who spent four years at Accies between 2008-2012 and also had a brief spell with Airdrie, will go down in Scottish football history as the man who pulled off arguably the biggest-ever Scottish Cup upset.
His first half strike, a deflected effort inside the box after 19 minutes, was enough for the West of Scotland Premier Division leaders to knockout Jim Goodwin's Premiership heavyweights, who play a whopping five tiers above the Ayrshire side.
Football fans across the country were quickly tuning in to the live TV broadcast as news of Darvel's potential upset gathered pace.
After deservedly taking the lead, they then defended resolutely to keep the Dons at bay and book their place in the last 16.
Afterwards, stunned striker Kirkpatrick told BBC Scotland: "It's hard to explain. It is a bit surreal. I think it will digest over the night but it is hard to believe right now. It will take a few days to digest.
"It was one of those ones where you just try to get it on target. I don't think it was even the best of strikes but one where you hit the target and hope it goes in - and it did.
"It means everything.
"You saw the crowd that came here, it's amazing, and it shows just how much it means to them.
"There's a lot of experienced players in the squad and it just shows you, even with the step up in standard, that we can step up.
"I'm meant to be at work tonight so I need to phone my boss to ask him if I can get the night off. I might get a day off!"
Their reward is a tie against Scottish League One outfit Falkirk next month and belief will be coursing through the side that they can go one step further.
Kirkpatrick added: "It's another team where we will have the confidence to go and compete with them and, hopefully, we can do it again."
Kirkpatrick wasn't the only ex-Accie involved, as goalkeeper Chris Truesdale was on the books at New Douglas Park as a teenager. He also had a stint with Rutherglen Glencairn's under-21s.
