Aberdeen's Rox Hotel to reopen after takeover

The Rox Hotel in Aberdeen City is set to reopen within a couple of weeks after it was acquired by a Thai company.

Compass Hospitality is planning to create up to 20 new jobs from the reopening of the city centre hotel.

In a joint venture with Seacare Hospitality, Compass bought the Rox for an undisclosed sum. The hotel was put on the market with a £2m price tag.

The hotel closed at the onset of the first coronavirus lockdown in March 2020, which led to the original owners putting it up for sale.

Compass said the Rox Hotel was its seventh acquisition in Scotland and its 17th in the UK, as part of a post-pandemic buying spree. Its other Scottish hotels are located in Dundee, Glasgow and Inverness. The firm first entered the UK market in 2015.

The 32-room hotel in Aberdeen also has a ballroom and function space for around 180 guests, along with the 100-seat Rox Grill Room and 70-seat cafe and bar.

Harmil Singh, chief executive at Compass, said: “The addition of this delightful four-star property to our expanding UK hotel portfolio demonstrates our confidence particularly in the Scottish hospitality market, and we continue to look forward optimistically to further growth in this area.”
