Aberdeen received ref visit in Rangers clash aftermath as Dave Cormack reveals SFA man stopped by to 'go through' calls

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has revealed a prominent SFA refereeing figure spoke at length to the club about decisions made in a match against Rangers.

Head of refereeing Crawford Allan made the journey to the northeast to speak to the Dons after a 2-2 draw at Ibrox back in October, after which then-boss Stephen Glass said John Beaton had made two horrendous calls that robbed his team of three points.

He lashed out at free-kick and penalty awards that resulted in Rangers' two goals and Cormack claims Allan talked club figures through those calls "and some others".

Goals from Christian Ramirez and Scott Brown had Dons two up only for Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier to hit back from the set-piece and penalty in question.

Neither of which would have stood if the upcoming introduction of VAR had been brought in sooner, according to Cormack.

Speaking on RedTV, Cormack said: "What I can tell you is that we had Crawford Allan, the head of the referees, come up to Aberdeen to go through this, go through those decisions and some others.

"What I would say, being politically correct, is that if VAR had been in play for those two decisions then neither of those goals would have stood."

When the sides then met three months later at Pittodrie, Rangers would be moved to compose an eight-point letter to highlight every issue they had with the performance of the official for that match, Kevin Clancy.
