Strong margins also led to earnings before tax of £10.3m during the 2021/22 financial year.
The business increased headcount by 20% from 225 to 270 during the period, opening new offices in Glasgow and Manchester, supporting existing sites in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, as well as 15 others around the world.
Jason Allen, activpayroll’s chief executive, said: "Our performance is thanks to a consistent desire to accelerate growth, as well as aligning our activities to a bold and ambitious business plan.
"We’ve been working hard to put in place a high impact leadership team which has built a strong organisation with a clear performance focus, positive culture, and critically, a motivated and involved workforce.
"We’ve seen new appointments to the executive committee and have invested in significant key senior positions, and this has been further strengthened by significant investment in the business IT systems and infrastructure."
Chief financial officer Nick Southwell said: "This year’s financial performance sets us up well for the future and we will continue to target long-term sustainable growth by focusing on strong performing sectors and building an ambitious approach to acquiring new customers."
Allen added: "As we prepare to celebrate 21 years in business this October, we will use this milestone respect our past and celebrate our future.
"Our team is ambitious and determined to continue to perform at the highest level whilst recognising the looming global economic challenges all businesses will face in the coming months."
