Motherwell may face a new manager at Fir Park this Saturday when Aberdeen come to ML1 for the second successive weekend.
Stephen Glass was dismissed as boss last weekend following Motherwell's 2-1 Scottish Cup fifth round victory over his side.
Now the Dons have been granted permission to speak with St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin ahead of their trip to Fir Park on Saturday.
Aberdeen are in eighth place in the Premiership prior to taking on Motherwell, with neither side winning a league match so far this year.
A statement reads: "The club confirms it has been given permission by St Mirren FC to talk to its manager, Jim Goodwin, regarding the vacant managerial position.
"We will make a formal announcement when the process to secure a new manager is complete."
