Aberdare man burnt by mechanical explosion

An Aberdare man has been badly burnt after a mechanical device exploded in the small hours of the morning on Saturday, paramedics say.

The 46-year-old man had suffered serious burns to his chest, face and arms and had to be flown to Royal North Shore Hospital by Westpac Rescue Helicopter just after midnight on October 26.

Paramedics and local police were called to Northcote Street around 12.15am, where they assessed the man before the helicopter service's critical care team arrived.

Police, who said they were looking into the incident, said the burns to the man's face were significant and that their inquiries into how the man was injured were ongoing.

He was flown to hospital soon after in a serious but stable condition.
